Greetings from Santiago. So on Saturday we completed our 75 mile walk to the Lighthouse at Fisterra, "The journey to the edge of the world". We have literally shed blood sweat and tears on this trip. My feet are blistered and I'm likely to lose some toenails along the way but what an inspirational trip and what a fantastic person Nina Barough is. Nina Barough is the founder of Walk the walk..The Walk the walk charity is a grant giving breast cancer charity and they provide facilities such as the Maggie's centre which have funded so much support to women and their families. I have felt privileged to take part I'm not a sporty person I have always been a little (or a lot) overweight but I can walk and I can walk up pills and we all did it with the support of each other. My initial target for fundraising was £750 I have raised £1,040 so far. If you'd like to give here is the link to my giving page below..

It's madness but off I go again. This time just an easy (lol) 26 mile overnight walk in London on 20th May. I'm walking with my daughter Jasmine. We have called our team "Happy Days" and hoped more of the family could be cajoled into coming along with us but no luck so far.
I didn't intend to ever do a sponsored walk for Walkthewalk again. I thought that last 77 mile one up and down those hills in Spainwas my swansong but Jasmine wanted to do this moonwalk and she wouldn't do it alone,. But I am fit enough to it and lucky to bevable to and most importantly Breast Cancer doesn't take a rest so why should I?
Here's the link to my funding page below. As I always say donations, large or small are very welcome. Honestly very small ones are just as welcome. You won't feel like you've broken the bank if you sponsor me the cost of a coffee or a pint. Xx

It's my last night's sleep before the walk tomorrow night.
I haven't trained nearly enough for this challenge
I am fat and and unfit.
It will be a miracle if I cross that 26.2 mile finish line.
Miracles do happen though.
Pray for me or sponsor me.
Thanks Steve for allowing me to post here.
It's the last time. I promise.

Good luck, Stella! I supported you, so I'm counting on you to walk the walk. Sounds like an ordeal, I certainly couldn't do it I don't think, but you've walked this far before. Sending good wishes and encouragement.

All done. So glad it's over. It was a gruelling almost 9 hour ordeal but still, very proud of our achievement..
It really is a most worthy cause.
Here we are with our medals.
We look knackered. We were!

Very proud of our achievement.
Many thanks to those who have donated. It's very much appreciated. X

Stella,

I hope you and yours are OK, healthy, happy, prosperous. I am aware of just one post you made shortly after Steve's death - on the Home page.

You are probably more of a fan of Steve/ Cockney Rebel, than (even) I (maybe - as Joe Jackson said - It's different for girls? - By this I mean it's affected you differently - a different perspective from my own). Science has shown that there are (a few) differences between the female and male brain (neither is superior to the other) - I'm not trying to dig a hole for myself!

I've experienced two biopsies (13 cores the first time and 29 cores the second time) since July 2024 and the first time my team were three females and they were brilliant! The second time the team comprised (January 2025) of one male and two females and they were brilliant too! For those who might be anxious about the prospect, local anaesthesia these days is terrific, very effective. I think the first time was slightly more comfortable (different points of entry, the number of cores probably made a difference, and I want to be honest - the all female team were gentler but still effective) anyway - perhaps too much information! Steve was pretty open and I like to be (within reason and sense) too.

Using the Joe Jackson song, in this context, might be too flippant - we're ALL different with our own unique perspectives (is what I should have said and would have been better put, by me). I thought I'd leave the reference in though - not only are first thoughts important but - those back to back singles of Joe's and his band were great, I thought - and I might be doing myself down - saying you are a bigger fan of Steve/ Cockney Rebel - I suspect though you have been more loyal, or if that's wrong too, more continuous (at more gigs, over more years)?

This is my last ever post here - though I'll continue to follow this site for either as long as I can, or as long as it remains. I expect to be around for a while (some years) yet - but who (really) knows?

The Man has gone and the surviving band members have to move on too. I left it for nine or ten months after Steve's death - to come back here - continued expression (for me) is positive and therapeutic and Steve may have left wishes for the site to remain...he might have wanted...

All my best to you and The Peckham Ladies (thanks for 'telling me' about them)! Those six years commuting in and out of London from the mid-1990's (in my life) I'm very fond of - like the first six months of 1975, and a few other years before and since (1983 to 1986 inclusive particularly comes to mind) too. Glad we were both present at The Jazz Cafe in '98! I hope you've all had a good BH.

Take care,

Jem
