VICTIM OF LOVE
My favourite by the brothers et al (as subject). It's insane that today is probably only the second time that I've heard it (I'll confess it's because I don't have the whole album on CD - I've been 'nuts' about Dino since 19 December 2022 and now there is this too).
This shows that the hunger I referred to (one of associated links below refers) was definitely still there, with the comeback, fifteen years after 'Face To Face'.
I've put a YouTube link in that seems to have been in the public domain since 2016, but I'll soon be downloading it - the track - from an official source - to my stick, which will mean I'll be listening to it, every other week, at least.
This song, to me, is structured and worded in the manner of one of the commercial hits, from over fifteen years before. Simply a gem of a composition.
I know that there are other associated threads and in due course, I'll add at least one of these - somewhere herein? - from 13 years ago x
13/10/25 Edit:
What do I especially like about it? Well,
The MELODY!!! (At the moment - and I'm sure that this will be lasting - I'm as obsessed with it as I am with Sweet Dreams...) This makes me FEEL good!
The Tempo - 143 bpm (Source: Chordify). This is very close to (I Believe) Love's A Prima Donna.
(As always) Steve's charisma in delivery of the vocal, his heart...
The Piano. This is running...as Prima Donna was, if anything, the chord changes are even better than Prima Donna (shock horror!)
The Rhythm Guitar. Prominent in the mix. Just superb. Whether Steve or Robbie, or Milton?
The VIOLIN solos. Back to roots (Cockney Rebel and yet I must remember, this was presented by the Tour Booklet, as a solo production. For Steve, maybe unfinished business after the (commercial) disappointment of 'The Candidate' (1979)? Difficult though, to lay the 'Cockney Rebel brand', to one side...Certainly some strong songs though and a very worthy comeback).
The words, especially the key phrases, 'I'm alive, alright...' and '...wanna be your victim of love'. This is celebratory, this is what the writer is wanting...This could be about a person or persons or, the following (?) Whatever, for me it's got everything and the sooner it finds it's way on to my stick, the better.
The major chords E, A, and B, together with F# minor.
I should have bought the album back in 1992, I'm sure there was merch there back on the day...Now I can cherry pick my favourite songs, I suppose, like this and Star For A Week (Dino), presumably. I would never be happy just listening to it via my phone or laptop, I like to juxtapose tracks by both my favourite, and other artists - and I want to do it free from having to manipulate or look at hardware - I just want to let it play, listen and enjoy. Besides, better for the artists - or the owner of the rights - to purchase a download from an official source. Have a good week X
