Before the photo shoot Steve had told the model that they'd get her off the plinth before the tide came in. Now he was looking worried.
Where were those fellas giving donkey rides on Crosby beach?

Will you be selling the new album on this site Steve? I'd rather give you the money than retailers. Been looking forward to this for ages!

Hi Lee, it says in a recent diary that Comeuppance is the record company, so it won't make any difference to th artis's income whether we buy from HMV, on-line of from the website shop. Love what I've read elsewhere about Billy Sloan's comments, all sounds very exciting. It's such an evocative cover too, artwork that hints at great music...

Amamzing cover, there is no such thing as coincidence; my 2 most favorite artists in the world are Steve and Anthony Gormley.
Looking forward to hearing the songs.

My family and all those I've turned on to this great record love the cover, Steve. So much mystery. Is that the Stranger, the Iron Man, because he is cold-blooded, whereas the Minstrel (you0 and the female, glamorous and looking to oblivion, or the future, are of this world - except you don't write like most! Hope that's not too convoluted a reading of a very clever and witty cover.

Hi Steve, it was so good to see you after such a long time, my daughter and I came to see you at Bristol's Colston Hall on 1st June, I moved from Bristol last year to a village near Swansea, my daughter Sian is 23 and brought up on a diet of your music which she loves almost as much as I do. I came to Cardiff's St. David's Hall on the 9th June which was also phenonomal, standing ovations both nights, I don't know what the writer of Evening Post's cover of the show was on about. I love the older material, my favourites inc Ride the Waves, Ballerina but I love the new album, very good writing Steve, can't wait to see you again, best wishes and love as always, Kathryn x

In the Gallery on this website you can see the original photo (used for the album cover), taken on Steve's camera, by a stranger on Crosby beach.
What a fabulous image.

Hi, I'm sorry to encroach on this thread, but there doesn't seem to be any general conversational thread to post to. I just "discovered" Steve Harley by coincidence about a week ago when a friend posted a video of him singing "Come Up And See Me" on Facebook. I quickly became enthralled with him. Can anyone tell me why on earth we don't know anything about him in the United States??? I feel robbed! He's brilliant. His music, his lyrics, his voice, his theatrics, his charisma -- I can't get enough of him. It seems he's had an entire career play out since the 70's and I've never heard of him!! I've been fervently checking out every song I can find on YouTube.com; it seems I can't stop watching him.
Oh, and another thing, I have a new favorite song, "The Coast of Amalfi", which I heard on this website and tried to buy on Amazon.com, but they don't sell it!!! Which CD is it on? It's very frustrating as I am quickly becoming a passionate fan. Steve could have been as big a star as any of the British groups that made it big here in the United States. I don't understand why we haven't heard of him. Can anyone explain? Thank you.

I don't know why Steve never made it big in the States but I'm glad you've discovered him. Loads of like-minded fans on this forum. Welcome.

Thanks, Stella, I'll go look for it now.
Do you happen to know if there has been a biography or autobiography written about him, also? report abuse

Cheri. A biography? The man's only 59 and still in his prime. No. No biography or even autobiography as such yet but he has collated his diary entries from 2000 to 2008 and put them together in a book. It's called " The Impression Of Being Relaxed" (though you'd never guess that from the image on the front cover) and it's available on this website.http://www.steveharley.com/shop.html And.....best of all he'll sign it for you!!

Stella, thanks.
I was able to find the "Quality of Mercy" CD on Amazon.com, but man was it expensive! 23 dollars and some cents as it is an import, and it won't arrive until after Christmas, to boot. They only had 2 in stock. I also bought a greatest hits CD called "The Cream Of", which has some good songs on it like Judy Teen, Sebastian, Here Comes the Sun, Tumbling Down, etc., 16 songs in all and it was only $6.99. I still don't understand why he never played the U.S. I only wish I knew of him during the 70's and 80's so I could have lived those years "with" him. I'm glad he's still putting out albums, though. He's fabulous. You all are so lucky to be able to see him live. He's unique and completely special. Precious, really.
